2017 Property Tax Information

The Town of Beaverlodge Combined Property Tax and Assessment Notices were mailed on May 25, 2017.  The Town of Beaverlodge Property Tax consists of municipal, education, and seniors’ housing tax, and is due by July 31, 2017.

Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse you from the obligation of payment, nor does it relieve the liability of penalty on late payments. There will be a 12% penalty applied to any unpaid amounts on August 1, 2017.

The Town of Beaverlodge collects and remits education tax on behalf of the Province of Alberta, based on a calculation formula that takes into account the amount of assessment in each jurisdiction.

All Alberta property owners pay education property taxes.  There is now a Seniors Property Tax Deferral Program, which allows seniors to defer all or part of their property taxes through a low interest home equity loan with the Alberta government.    Information on how to apply for this loan is available from the website www.SeniorsPTDP.alberta.ca You can also contact the Alberta Supports Contact Centre at 1-877-644-9992.

Preparation of 2017 Assessment Rolls

Notice is hereby given that the Assessment Roll of the Town of Beaverlodge, made under the provision of the Municipal Government Act, Revised Statutes of Alberta, 2000, Chapter M-26, has been prepared.  Land and improvements are assessed to a market value standard pursuant to the requirements of the Municipal Government Act.  The roll will be open for inspection in the lower level of the Town Square from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., located at 1016 – 4th Avenue, Beaverldoge, Alberta.  Please note that the office may be closed for lunch from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. daily. Complaints & Appeals
The Government of Alberta introduced a single system of assessment complaints for the entire province starting in January 2010.  This means the complaint process has changed as a result of amendments to the Municipal Government Act, R.S.A. 2000, c M-26 and Matters Relating to Assessment Compalints Regulation AR310/09.
Assessment Review Board
Assessment Review Boards hear complaints on assessments to ensure that assessments are fiar and equitable in realtion to assessments on other, similar properties in the municipality.  The Board then directs any necessary amendmentts to be made to the assessment role.

Any person who objects to the name, assessed values, or mill rate classification as entered on the assessment roll must lodge a complaint in writing, accompanied by a $50.00 assessment appeal fee, (per tax roll account) to the Town of Beaverlodge Office within 60 days from the mailing date of the annual Combined Tax and Assessment Notices.  Further information on the appeal procedure may be located on back of said notice
The assessment appeal deadline is July 24, 2017.
