POSITION TITLE:            Casual/Part Time Customer Service Representative

REPORTS TO:                  Recreation Facility Manager

To be successful as a Receptionist, you should have a pleasant personality, strong communication skills and team oriented. You should also be able to assist customers in a timely and effective manner, while streamlining office operations. Multitasking, organizational and stress management skills are essential for this position. This role requires working in shifts, so flexibility is a plus. Ultimately, a Receptionist’s duties and responsibilities are to ensure the front desk welcomes guests positively, and executes all administrative tasks to the highest quality standards.

Position Summary:         

  • Receiving visitors at the front desk by greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing them appropriately
  • Answering, screening and forwarding incoming phone calls
  • Administrative functions including producing memberships, program registration, processing payments, etc.
  • Ensuring everyone entering the facility has a valid pass or is otherwise authorized to enter.
  • Overseeing facility rentals including completing appropriate paper work and maintain booking calendars
  • Enforcing the rules and regulations of the Recreation Centre to ensure the safety of facility users.
  • Assisting at events as required.
  • As training and experience permit, assist administrative and recreation staff and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist with minor first-aid if required
  • Tidy and maintain reception area, ensure cleanliness of rooms and fitness center
  • Willing to take on additional training required for the performance of your duties.

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:

  1. Previous office, accounting and customer service experience preferred.
  2. Computer skills with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, web browsing an asset.
  3. Current Standard First-aid certification, or willing to take training
  4. Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks under tight timelines; use own initiative to plan, organize and establish priorities and work well as a team member.

Position Title: Lifeguard I

Report to: Aquatics Coordinator/ Parks and Recreation Manager

Position Summary

The Town of Beaverlodge, Recreation Department is looking for energetic and responsible individuals to join our team as Casual/ Part-time Lifeguards I. Under supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator/ Parks and Recreation Manager, you will be ensuring the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies, provide general lifeguarding duties and teaching lessons.


  1. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
  2. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  3. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
  4. Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
  5. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
  6. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.


A minimum 1-year experience as a Lifeguard and Instructor with training in Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Award, National Lifeguard Award, current First Aid Certification- Level C CPR.  


  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Skilled in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.

Aquatics Supervisor

Department:  Recreation  

Position Title:  Aquatics Supervisor

Reports To:       Parks and Recreation Manager

Position Summary

This position would report directly to The Town of Beaverlodge, Parks and Recreation Manager. The Aquatics Supervisor is a technical position responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Recreation Centre’s Pool and Supervisor of Aquatics staff.

The Aquatics Supervisor oversees the delivery of lifeguarding and instructional services and assist in coordinating the administration, planning, organization, and operation of the Aquatics programs offered by the Recreation Department.

This is a unique opportunity to develop and implement best practices and have a significant impact on the daily operations of the pool. The Aquatics Supervisor will administer health and safety programs and develop a safety culture within the team. The Aquatics Supervisor will perform independently in an environment that requires ongoing creativity, proactivity and initiative to ensure that the recreation facilities and programs are responsive and aligned to community needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily pool operations and delivery of lifeguarding and instructional services.
  • Develops and schedules aquatic programming for the center to include, classes, swim lessons, and other aquatic programs as developed and assigned.
  • Assists in hiring, training and scheduling qualified lifeguards, instructors and all other pool staff; directly supervises lifeguards, instructors, and other aquatic staff.
  • Ensure that facility and programs are properly staffed.
  • Ensure that all staff is qualified and trained in emergency procedures and skills required of their position.
  • Ensure the aquatic centre follows Provincial and Alberta Public Health Regulations, and that pool operations and all areas of programming meet or exceed all identified Aquatics Safety Standards.
  • Ensure that the facility/programs are operating optimally and report all concerns to supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions.
  • Prepare and assist supervisor with employee performance evaluations. Provide effective and regular feedback to subordinates as part of ongoing performance management of staff.
  • Perform maintenance/janitorial duties including but not restricted to: cleaning and disinfecting, pool chemistry tests, vacuuming, backwashing, chemical balancing, and pool fouling clean-up.
  • Ensure the security, integrity and completeness of all records.
  • Encourage a harmonious working relationship amongst all municipal employees.
  • Assist in achieving corporate excellence through information provision, problem solving and teamwork.
  • Organized and promoted recreation; addressed individual interests of diverse group while maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations regarding public health and safety;
  • Handles the filtration system and other aquatic operating systems with the assistance of the Building Maintenance Worker. Maintains proper pool chemical balance.
  • Performs regular safety inspections of pools and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety to the patrons.
  • Ensure all activities within the scope of this position are performed in accordance with Town policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service by being friendly, courteous and helpful to all patrons
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and statistics relating to aquatic programming and pool operations.
  • Other related duties, as required.

Positions Supervised:

  • Lifeguard and Instructors


  • Proficient knowledge in the areas of lifeguarding, swimming instruction, and emergency procedures, with experience maintaining an Aquatics facility
  • First Aid Level C including CPR which includes A.E.D.
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification (LSI) or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor would be considered an asset
  • National Lifeguarding Services Certification (NLS)
  • Pool Operators Certification Level 1 with ability to progress to Level 2
  • Flexibility as the position requires shift work
  • Demonstrated computer skills to operate spreadsheet and word processing programs
  • Minimum 3 years experience with pool operations and working with public.
  • Minimum grade 12 diploma.
